Julius West Middle School - experience?

Anonymous
We’ve only heard good things about this school which makes me feel like people are overcompensating? Anyone have actual feedback? Does it feel too big or overcrowded? Do they address bullying in the right way?

Bullying there was so horrible and I effectively addressed that my friend had to pull her DD out. And she worked for MCPS!

My kid had a terrible experience at Julius West at the beginning of this year, ending in a pretty violent assault. The SESES program there is badly understaffed and most staff seemed to not really care to do anything beyond the bare minimum. Much happier at a different school.

This is what we are afraid of. Were you able to get a cosa because of the bullying? The schools seems massive.

I had two kids go through it and they were fine. Both had solid friend groups that started in elementary. Biggest issue was that one was very bored. The other did fine in the mostly un tracked classes.

It's January, so are you asking for this August or are you a current parent looking to complain? The admin is responsive and the principal is dedicated to the community. The biggest problem I encounter is the entitled parents in the community.

? The Principal was usually gone half the year when my kids were there.

The school is huge.

IMO, I don't think the school is the worst; certainly not the best MS. But, MS sucks in general, not just JWMS.

Every single MS will have someone who likes it, complains about it, just meh with it.

Our experience was overall very positive. We found the principal to be engaged, teachers dedicated and counselors responsive. DC was well prepared for high school. I know not everyone’s experience will be the same, but we thought JWMS was very good for a middle school.
