SSL and charities

Does anyone know if you volunteer for a nonprofit in Maryland (like a pet rescue), if they have to be registered with MCPS for the SSL hours to count?

Yes, if the organization is not already listed on the Montgomery county volunteer website, the student needs to turn in a form at least 2 weeks prior to volunteering to get the opportunity certified.

I did not know they had to take a class. I hope they are willing to do so.

You also don’t have to do actual service to get SSL hours. Some kids watch videos on their chromebooks and complete an online activity for multiple SSL hours

They will waive it for some groups. I took it. It was no big deal.

There aren’t enough to do the 70 hours that way.
