Is Gonzaga shadow day a requirement?

My son has flu and our shadow day is next week. Will there be a chance to reschedule or this might impact application decision if I need to cancel?

Contact the school.

Absolutely not a requirement. We’ll all be happy to not have a sick kid at school. OTOH he could feel fine by “next week”. Shadow days continue all school year. Just reschedule if necessary.

The shadow day is optional, although my son found it to be very helpful and it definitely solidified his decision that he wants to go there. I’m sure they’ll understand that he’s sick and will help you to reschedule.

I would say you should reschedule. Gonzaga is a very unique experience compared to other local schools (not saying good or bad) but boys have found that visiting helps solidify their decision either way. It’s definitely not for everyone.

Why is it not for everyone? What might turn a student off? Structure, rigor, uniforms?

The families at GZ are all in — to be honest, there is a lot of kool aid drinking happening, good and bad. But ultimately students make the school experience what they want and need. Yes, there are a lot of boys who are cocky, but also boys who aren’t as brash. When you have that many boys together there is room for everyone.

The shadow day helps boys to see if this school is the type of experience they want — there is no wrong answer, as education is personal.
