Have you ever hit an animal by accident with your car?

If yes, how bad was it? Did you realize you did it at the time (if small)? Did you stop? Did it change the way you drive?

Silly, I know, but when I see a squirrel on the road when I'm driving by, I always try to check my mirrors to make sure it got away ok.

I haven't, and I always feel bad for the dead ones I see on the road. RIP, little buddies.

I am from a rural area in the west, and my driver's ed teacher made a big deal about ignoring small animals when you're driving and being careful not to swerve if you see a bigger animal. I don't recall hitting an animal but since I have already been "trained" with hitting animals in mind I don't think it would make me drive differently!

I hit a squirrel once. I let go of the brake and slowed down, but it chose to run under a tire. I felt bad, but there was nothing I can do.

Yes I crushed a deer didn’t swerve and it was 5 am

Yes - a deed (DOA), and a bunny.

I had to euthanize the deer. It was the right thing to do.

I did hit a squirrel that I swear was suicidal. It ran right out in front of my car on a busy neighborhood street near an elementary school and there was no way I could safely stop without probably causing someone to rear end me. That was the only animal I hit - driving since 16 and I hit it when I was 36, so about 20 years of driving.

How did you do this? Did you call some entity? You had a gun in your truck?

Did you try to bring it to a veterinarian?

A bird flew in front of my car. I had feathers stuck to my grill.

Car. But yes; I have a .22 rifle in the trunk. Animal control uses the same thing.

Uh oh - prepare to be berated as a MAGA gun freak for keeping a small caliber rifle in your car. Bet you have an American flag sticker too!

Over the past 40 years of driving, I have hit three squirrels.

I hit a deer once in a busy suburban area. Shocked the heck out of me as I've lived in that area for a long time and never seen deer there.

I hit it head on and ran over it as I didn't see it until it was right in front of me. I had my toddlers in the car with me so drove home and called the police non emergency line to let them know about the deer.

Funny thing was that my car had no damage whatsoever. It was one of those Pontiac Azteks. Say what you want about the looks, but I think the front being built like a train's cowcatcher helped prevent damage.
