Infertility Support and Discussion
My pregnancies were complicated, and my OB suggested tying the tubes after my second child's birth. I believe the tubes were cauterized during the c-section. I genuinely thought were were done after having our two children. I find that I'm not done, and want to explore having a third. Has anyone been through this? Do I have any chances of having a third child without too much intervention. I am in my late 30s. I assume that we can extract an egg and make an embryo, and then transfer back into the uterus. Would this be the only way to get pregnant again? No way to get tubes working again? I have an OB appointment to talk about all this as well but its not for another month. Thanks for all thoughts.
Depending on the condition of your tubes, you can either have a tubal reversal surgery or do IVF. I have no idea what the cost of the surgery is or the odds of it working are. If you elected to do IVF, it would proceed the same as IVF done for infertility reasons. The only down side to any of this is that it is completely out of pocket. Insurance companies that do pay for IVF or a portion of it always have a disclaimer that they won't pay if tubes have been previously tied.
OP I'm in the same boat as you 37 years old, have 2 kids ages 10 and 12, had my tubes tied after the second...Long story short, marriage fell apart and I have recently remarried a great guy who does not have kids. We are exploring Nat cycle since I'm otherwise okay and we discovered my husband has mild male factor. I was kind of relieved the whole problem isn't me, makes it a team effort. Good luck to you.

I wouldn't waste my time or money on getting my tubes repaired, because that can be a complete crap shoot.
Go straight to IVF. And if you want to, and are young enough, I would say that Natural Cycle might financially, physically and emotionally be your best bet. |
OP here. I did some research since posting, and it seems natural cycle IVF might be the way to go in my case. What are the best places in DC to get this done? Are there long wait lists to get an appointment? I assume it will be with a specialist. I am seeing the OB next week. Approximately how long could it take to get things started - would I first need a medical work up etc?
I think dominion Fertility is the only place that does nat cycle IVF, I'm in the beginning stages of looking for an RE.
Yes, Dominion Fertility is the only place in the area that does NIVFs. I suggest seeing Dr. Gordon. I would call today and schedule an appointment with him. He will review your medical history and schedule tests, if any. If you need to have tests done, you should be done within a month at the latest. Good luck!
There have been instances where the tubes do grow and re-connect to each other. There have been many cases where women have had children despite getting tubal ligation. Just a thought.... |
However, the tubal ligation procedures are getting better so there are fewer "failures". Something about more than one site along the tube for the procedure.
I know of one person that had a tubal reversal done with a surgeon in NC, paid over 10K, and she got pregnant but it was ectopic. Now she has to do IVF, spending another 10K or more.
