Overeaters Anonymous

Does anyone have experience with this group? It's finally becoming clear to me that I have a problem, but I was curious what the group is like and how helpful it is.

OA follows the same model as AA, and encourages abstinence from certain types of foods. Lots of online resources and also local meetings depending on where you live.

There is a similar program called Greysheeters Anonymous. Both have online meetings and resources you can check out from home, and local meetings as well depending on where you live.

If you want a good look inside the GA approach, you might want to read Judy Collins's book Cravings.

You might want to start here instead of OA or GA - both of those approaches leave a lot of room for shaming over willpower/abstinence, but this PhD promotes a healthier approach to dealing with food addiction:

I’ve been in a similar program for 30 years and am maintaining a 145 pound weight loss. It saved my life. It may not be for everyone but it’s worked for me and I’m happy.
