I recently had a small inheritance from a relative who loved to cook and host and I’ve decided I’d like yo get some nicer things related to that. I’m more interested in beautiful and interesting rather than all high end. Our style is quite eclectic so open to all styles.
I’m thinking serving bowls and dishes, a tureen maybe, some pretty olive wood serving utensils or platters. Thanks for any recs! |
I’d honestly start with Amazon and eBay. |
Williams Sonoma or Crate and Barrel. If you want to explore vintage, try Replacements.com. They are pretty active on social media, they may even help you out if you reach out to them. |
Value Village |
I wouldn't force it. Maybe when you are on travels you will find something interesting. |
This. Look at independent kitchen stores and gift shops. Maybe look for pottery and wood serving pieces at places like the Torpedo Factory in old town. |
+1 I was also going to recommend local/independent gift shops. You can of course buy "designer" serveware at Neimans/Saks/Bloomingdales but its just a name on a dish. |
Mercari
Ebay Replacements |
I follow a few pottery artists on instagram and bought the most beautiful bowls and mugs from her! They were pricey (mugs are $50-$70 CAD, the 3 or 4 pack of nesting bowls were $180 CAD) but I love them so much, and really loved supporting a local artist.
You may be able to find something like that and a style that makes your heart sing. |
I don’t have recommendations for serverware but I love these Italian kitchen towels:

Etsy for handmade stuff, but look carefully since it's gotten overrun by crappy sellers just like Amazon.
BTW, I love the way you're thinking about your inheritance! |
I like estate sales & thrift sales but do occasionally get new things, and if I am buying new, I LOVE these
Vietri https://www.vietri.com/ Arte Italica https://www.arteitalica.com/ |
Quoting myself to add that you can get the Arte Italica on Replacements, too. And to say that I think this is a lovely tribute to your loved one, buying something they'd enjoy. |
Food 52 has a lot of nice choices. |
