Early dismissal PGCPS

Can someone provide a better or more detailed explanation for why PG keeps closing randomly?

They closed Saturday for activities (rain)and 2hr early dismissal today for .....rain and wind?

Hoping someone in admin lurks this board.

It's not "just" rain these days. 4 inches of rain, depending on how fast it's falling, can wash out tons of roads. It wasn't much more than that that ended up flooding Canal Road a few years ago.

Factor in teachers, admin and us drivers need to get home during rush hour traffic amid flood warnings and that's why school is closing early. Rush hour starts at 2 pm in this area.

High winds create unsafe conditions for busses.

For today, it’s mostly about the busses snd commute times. Any sort of inclement weather (rain, snow, wind) ties up traffic and bus times. They don’t want kids getting home at 7 pm.

Early dismissal and Saturday cancellations don’t need to be made up so those are easy calls to make.

My guess is you either are from an area north of here and haven’t had a kid in the DMV schools for long. Schools close here all the time when you might not think it necessary.

I am not. I went to schools in HoCo and before that in NC and FL. I don't ever remember getting a day off for .... rain, no matter how heavy. We would get off if a certain percentage of the county did not have power from tropical stroms or hurricanes but these were state-wide events and its a hurricane. Which means that Ill need to prepare for a late opening or closure tomorrow as it seems to be going.

Anne Arundel county schools announced yesterday. Maybe they waited until today hoping forecast would change.

I can understand the decision today....the decision to cancel activities this past Saturday was stupid.
