I'm new to the DC area and am looking for opportunities to play the flute again, after many years away from the instrument. Can anyone tell me about any amateur orchestras or chamber music groups in the area? Or any organization that puts adult musicians together in contact with each other? Many thanks.

Here's a pretty comprehensive list. There doesn't seem to be any way to sort by state but you could search for MD or VA or DC.

OP here: Thanks so much for this! Anyone else have any ideas for how to get involved with music in the DC area? Where we lived before, there was an organization where they paired you with other players at the same level with you and assigned you a coach who helped your group learn chamber music pieces. Ideally, I'd love to find something comparable here. Any info appreciated! |
I'd try contacting the Levine School. They may be able to put you in touch with other musicians.
It's been years since I thought of this (or practiced!) but I once knew people who were involved with Friday Morning Music Club.
I used to play with the Georgetown University Orchestra after college. I didn't attend the University, but they usually need community members to fill in the instruments that aren't filled by the students. I did have to audition.
