I mean a Republican in the mold of Patrick Mara or Carol Schwartz. A more socially moderate (libertarian) and economically conservative type. I wish we could get one on our city council to even things out, maybe I should run for office. |
Two at-large council seats are reserved for members of the non-majority party--although in the last election Michael Brown, who's pretty clearly a Democrat, ran as an independent and got one of those seats.
The other is held by David Catania, a brilliant man and great councilmember. He was a Republican until the national party basically kicked him out for his stances on gay issues. |
Excuse me a brilliant man and great councilmember? Have you seen the state (no not that type of state-that will never happen) the state of DC across the board. They all are awful for getting DC where it is. |
If Catania's not good enough for you, I encourage you to run yourself.

Well, Patrick Mara is the reason we don't have Carol Schwartz. She most likely would have been re-elected in the general election but Mara decided to run against her in the Republican primary and he won. He wasn't figuring on Michael Brown running as an independent and basically giving us another Democrat -- but in Independent's clothes -- on the Council. Fool. I've voted for Carol Schwartz and I'm no Republican but I had no good reason to vote for Patrick Mara. I miss Carol! |
Ditto. |
Me too. And this year, I'd vote for her for Mayor, too. |
