Someone told me that there will be a 3 days 2 nights school sleepaway camp as part of curriculum for 5th graders. What places have they stayed at? I am planning a first summer sleepaway camp for my 3rd grader, and I hope that it won't be the same one.
By the way, any great sleepaway summer camp recommendation? |
| Outdoor ed is in 6th grade. Is that what you’re thinking of? |
It doesn't matter. Choose the best camp for him now and it doesn't matter where he goes for a short school trip. |
| Could also be Safety Patrol Camp, which I think is run by the police department (?) |
| It is outdoor Ed and it is in the sixth grade. |
| Op here. Thank you for correcting me that it is for 6th grade outdoor Ed. Do you know where they have been gone? |
| They typically go to one of three sites: Lathrop E. Smith Environmental Education Center (MCPS owned and operated); Camp Letts (privately owned); or Skycroft Conference Center (privately owned). You can find more info here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/outdoored/programs/ |
| Even if your child goes to Camp Letts for the summer, it will be a completely different experience than MCPS Outdoor Ed. |
This, OP. Outdoor Ed is a field experience for MCPS' 6th grade science curriculum, with very specific activities. It feels more like school than sleep away camp, and is not a substitute for sleep away camp. |
