School sleepaway camp

Anonymous
Someone told me that there will be a 3 days 2 nights school sleepaway camp as part of curriculum for 5th graders. What places have they stayed at? I am planning a first summer sleepaway camp for my 3rd grader, and I hope that it won't be the same one.

By the way, any great sleepaway summer camp recommendation?

Outdoor ed is in 6th grade. Is that what you’re thinking of?

It doesn't matter. Choose the best camp for him now and it doesn't matter where he goes for a short school trip.

Could also be Safety Patrol Camp, which I think is run by the police department (?)

It is outdoor Ed and it is in the sixth grade.

Op here. Thank you for correcting me that it is for 6th grade outdoor Ed. Do you know where they have been gone?

They typically go to one of three sites: Lathrop E. Smith Environmental Education Center (MCPS owned and operated); Camp Letts (privately owned); or Skycroft Conference Center (privately owned). You can find more info here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/outdoored/programs/

Even if your child goes to Camp Letts for the summer, it will be a completely different experience than MCPS Outdoor Ed.

This, OP. Outdoor Ed is a field experience for MCPS' 6th grade science curriculum, with very specific activities. It feels more like school than sleep away camp, and is not a substitute for sleep away camp.
