| VA ODP friendlies with NC are this weekend... I have a 2013 who will likely try out next year. On instagram, these 2012/5th/6th graders are getting on buses all together to go. Do kids go on these without parents (ala school overnight) and kids stay 4x room. Do some kids drive with their families? I'm fine sending my kid on the trip solo, but need to know for next year if I can just do that or have to budget to drive/fly and get a hotel room as well |

The teams travel together to the NC Friendlies via bus and stay together (3 to a room) in hotels. The bus picks up in 3 locations in VA (the Northern location is in Woodbridge). The only players permitted to drive to NC with their families are ones who live in the Western District (so closer to Charlotte). Parents can attend to watch the games but don't have to. Parents can't stay at the same hotel as the players or come to their room at their hotel, and only have time to chat with them quickly after games. Kids stay with the team all weekend, and are transported to a from games and meals via bus. Parents are allowed to request to drive their child home from NC after the final game.
For the VA Friendlies tournament (which is in February) - I believe parents are responsible for getting their child to Williamsburg on the first day, but then the kids are with the team exclusively until the end of their last game, when parents then are expected to pick them up and drive them home. |
Thank you. Very helpful |
| How the teams doing so far in NC? |
| The NC friendlies was a great experience for my son and taught him a lot about being responsible and independent. |

Have done it twice. The bus riding and experience got my lil one ready for ecnl travel. Scary at first but ur not too far away.
Kids get humbled eating Golden Corral. From what i see the ecnl clubs start to block clubs from attending later and it slacks off till the late teens. Also the selection for representing the region was very ny/pa heavy. I read that his assessment in a post years ago. Hits different when u live through it. I personally feel va needs to align down south …for a fair shake |
