This is good news O'Malley and his comrades have been horrible for the state. |
FWIW, the poll, which the Times (with no ax to grind, of course) noted had O'Malley ahead by slightly less than the margin of error, can also be described as being within the margin of error of the the previous poll, which had O'Malley ahead by 48% to 39%. I live in DC and don't care much for either O'Malley or Ehrlich, but statistical spin bugs me. |
I just wish the alternative to O'Malley was anyone but Ehrlich. Is there a third party candidate? (only slightly kidding). This may be the first time I've ever voted R. |
I think O'Malley's done relatively well considering the circumstances. My main criteria for that though has been - is he proposing more taxes to plug the problem or suggesting cuts, which is clearly where we have a budget problem. He has pushed for the latter I think and so I'm reluctant to vote against him, but I'm also highly suspicious that that won't change after the election when these continual rounds of cuts upon cuts get tougher and tougher for politicians. But I REALLY don't want to pay more state/local taxes since we already pay an incredible amount in MD. What need addressing are the union contracts. They have exploded in recent years and are not sustainable now that the economy has fundamentally changed. |
What exactly has O'Malley done well with? Look where all the new companies are moving to? Fairfax VA, not MD. Hilton and Norththrop Gruman to name a few all chose Va because of the higher corporate taxes in Md. He cut the state budget by putting obligations onto the counties. He is a Democrat which means he will not touch the state workers or the teachers.
I agree that I wish someone else was running. |
I think Ehrlich picked a bad running mate, let me correct myself, I think he shoudl have picked someone else because Mary Kane's husband is a problem. He has a huge law suit going on but he also thinks he should be the gov. |
The only thing I really remember about Erlich is that he tried to sell of State Park land to developers. Thank god that didn't end up happening. So, I don't trust him, would never vote for him or his ilk. |
wrong |
Meaning what? That he did not try to sell or that it did end up happening? Or maybe that PP does trust him or that PP will vote for him or his ilk? |
what do you mean by his ilk? Politicians that aren't beholden to the unions? or want to tax everyone in sight? |
Ehrlich also developed a black list of career state employees who he wanted fired for not supporting him. And had many forced out through intimidation and other illegal tactics. As a career employee in the white house, I find that to be very scary and incredibly unethical. But I also don't want to re-elect O'Malley. Probably just won't vote, but would love a good third party candidate. |
I heard an interview with Ehrlich on the radio and they asked him why he was running and I expected some response about how he thought the state needed him, but his answer was just that he thought he could win-- spent probably 3-4 minutes discussing why and never once said what he thought he would do better. Maybe you give him points for honestly, or figure it was one interview out of hundreds, but it really struck me.
Anyway I don't like OMalley much, but Ehrlich is awful. Look at his two lt. gov. choices-- Michael Steele and Mary Kane-- how do those show good judgment? |
I don't know anything about Kane; what do you object to about her. I am not a Marylander, but live only two blocks from the border, so I'm curious. |
You should take anything in the Washington Times with a grain of salt, and I think O'Malley has done a much better job than Ehrlich, who is a nothing but a good old boy political hack. |
