Left Some Stitches In, Now What?

Anonymous
My one year old accidentally pulled some stitches out of my lip so I was forced to perform some self-surgery and remove them myself. I woke up this morning and realized that there was a small thread of stitching left in my lip. It's right under the skin and I can see it when I pull my skin tight. It's not looking infected or too bad but it's really bothering me and I'm worried about leaving it in.

Would you try to get the little piece out yourself or head to the doctor. My dermatologist can't see me until next week and we're at the beach so I couldn't get in until two weeks from now. What would you do? Pick at it, go to the ER, go to the doctor in two weeks?

How about going to your regular doctor?

I tried, no one will see me for a sick visit and I'm out of town this week. I suppose I could go to the Right Time Care, I just hate to have anyone mess with my lip (even though I was considering doing it myself). There is no scar right now, I don't want that to change.

I'd go to one of those walk-in places. Removing stitches is no big deal for a doc.

Are you sure it's not a subcutanous stitch that's supposed to dissolve on its own? In any event, just go to a walk in place.

I'm sure. It's tough, blue thread.

To clarify, the stitch is closed up under the skin. I took out the five stitches, one stitch did not fully come out and is now enclosed under my lip.
