I need some part-time help with my 18 months old son, someone to watch and play with him inside while i get some work done. The caretaker does not need to leave the house, or at most, would be going out in the immediate vicinity of our house. I've heard of "mother's helpers" but how do I go about finding one? Most of the nannies want 40 hour contracts.
And if you have found someone like this, what do you pay them per hour? Thanks! |
Do you have a way to contact you? I’m interested in a position like this and can start as soon as Monday. |
What days and times do you want? How many hours a week? Are you accessible to transit? Those answers influence your most reliable options. |
Post on your neighborhood list serv to see if anyone has a teen or college student doing home school or some kind of flexible classes. We usually ask around at church. There is almost always someone between jobs or semesters looking to do this. Or there could be a nanny who needs something to do during school hours if her charges are in school or play school |
Interested in finding a mother's helper to help from 6:30 am to 9:30am and then 4:00 pm to 8:00pm daily and on weekends in the morning 8-12am. Would need to get someone as soon as possible. |
Those would be hard hours. It sounds to me like you need an actual sitter but you will be home working.
Mothers helper are usually younger teens looking for experience while a mom is there to step in if needed but it’s there it’s understanding of what babysitting would be like. Mothers Helperw are also usually only 2-3 hours a day…. To help. |
So 7 hours a day gets u to 35 hours plus you want weekends too. So you could give a nanny 40 hours a week easily. The hours kinda suck though. It’s an early start and a very late finish , 5 days a week. |
Contact your local community college’s education department. Or your high schools child development class. They would still be be to attend classes but help mornings and afternoons. |
Those hours suck and most Nannie’s can find a job where the parents aren’t home or WFH and leave us alone. Mothers helper can sometimes mean so many duties and who wants to do that when we can find a job that’s 100 percent dedicated to the child. Take care of your own kids from 6:30-9:30 am and weekends.

For those hours, you need an au pair plus a babysitter (for the 7th day) or 2-3 babysitters. No one will work 7 days a week. And would be very hard to find one person who wants to work a split shift M-F. |
12am is midnight, not noon.
You sound prertty ignorant. |
I can teach your kid to ride the bike, learn a second language, and grow vegetables. |
I have always thought mothers helpers are young teenagers, or tweens. A step below babysitter in terms of responsibility. What you’re looking for, with the regularity and hours sounds more like a part-time nanny or even a part-time babysitter. |
Find a high schooler in your neighborhood moms group |
Those hours won’t work for a high schooler. 6:30 ~ 9:30 am? No. Op is looking for a servant with no life. |
