Thinning edges

Anonymous
I have been struggling with thinning edges for 3 years (I’m early 40s). I use treatments then stop and progress backtracks. I’ve used nutrafol and topical rogaine and had success. I can’t see myself paying for nutrafol forever. Any advice for ways I can wing off the nutrafol and keep my progress?

I think Rogaine works the same as the eyelash growth serum - it extends the phase during which hair grows and lengthens the time before it falls out. If you stop taking it, new hairs will go back to their normal timeline. The only way to keep growth is to stay on meds.

Have you tried oral Rogaine?

Oral minoxidil has worked wonders for me.

I haven’t. My dermatologist refused to prescribe it. Maybe I’ll try another doctor.

Why did they refuse? Did they explain?

+1. I started taking it at the end of August and my hair is now so much more dense. My hair has more volume, I have 1-2" long baby hairs around the perimeter and you can no longer see my scalp through my hair.

My hair did continue to get thinner for a couple of months after starting the medication before starting to improve.

Would love to also know this. I see my Derm for annual exam next month and want to start this conversation. She's usually pretty conservative -- which I appreciate -- and I don't yet know her stance on this. I would love to hear what other Derms say for a more balance view.
