We’re a few years away from worrying about this, but I wanted to gather some information. How easy is it to secure off-campus (but close-by) housing in College Park?
My roommates and I paid a fortune and practically sold organs to secure a run-down 2 bedroom apartment in 2006, but I know CP has been built up quite a bit since then. |
It is a bad area around the university. Unsafe. |
There see to be a number of relatively new apartment buildings geared toward students. From the UMD parent group, most people seem happy with them. Did see some issues with the garages in the apartments but I don't think the area is completely unsafe. |
Not too hard. A lot of new units nowdays. |
There are several brand new very nice apartments close to campus but they are expensive. There are also older affordable apartments close to campus and they are safe. |
Tons of new housing (private off-campus apartments) for UMD students. Some are brand new and have lots of amenities. Not necessarily cheap though! There’s a huge list and database here.
