Life with longer nails

Anonymous
Please advise on how you do this. I have always kept my nails super short with no overhang past the skin. I am trying to put more effort into my looks and recently grew them out and they look great for weeks with dip powder.

My problem is I feel about as useful as a toddler. I have to ask DH to clip my necklaces. God forbid I eat a snack with my hands, I have to spend 5 min after digging crumbs out from under the nails. I have trouble picking small things up now. My nails are not even very long, not long enough for my manicurist do do an almond shape.

Help!!! What am I doing wrong?

The two worst things for me with longer nails are unclipping the stupid chest clip on my kid’s car seat (my friend gave me a tool that works well for the buckle) and taking out my contacts. Both are awful if your nails are even a little past your fingertips.

I really dislike long nails, not just on me, but don't like the way they look on anyone.

Same, especially the current long pointy trend.

You’re not doing anything wrong. Long nails are gross and full of germs.

I've always kept my nails long. It's easy to keep them clean, much easier than short nails. I have no trouble doing any tasks, except for the chest clip of the car seat, that's impossible.

During the pandemic, I started taking violin lessons and now keep my left hand fingernails, and right pinky nail, short. I hate it. Those fingers are now useless for so many tasks.

Agree. For some reason I associate them with women who do porn and strippers.

Same. All of the things I like for enjoyment are so much harder when you have nails so I don’t.

If it helps, long nails give me the ick. I’m totally repulsed by them on other people, to say nothing of myself.

+1. I find them tacky.

You will get used to them eventually. I have my nails in the shortest version of an almond possible and I have no issues with buttons, car seats, necklaces, etc.

I don’t like my fingers being dirty, long nails or not, at my desk when I am typing and writing in a notebook- so I eat snacks with chopsticks. I work at home, so only my husband sees me and has a god laugh at my expense.

I always end up cutting my nails short for the same reason. It is not as though I do any manual labor but my life is simply not set up for long nails. They are so hard to keep clean and completely gross me out.

I absolutely LOVE long nails, but cant function with them!

I used to work with a girl who always had really long, perfectly manicured nails. She said you get used to doing things differently. You have to re-learn how to use your fingers lol. For example, instead of pushing an elevator button with your finger tip, you use your knuckle. You dont use your nail to open a can of pop, you either use the side of your finger or something else to pop it up.

I've also heard of the chopsticks for snacks thing lol. Honestly, works great for short nails too so your fingers dont get cheeto-dusty

There are probably some youtube videos about how to live with long nails and how to adapt, maybe look it up!
