Me, DH, and both our kids have these extremely painful sores in our mouths. We also have some signs of viral illness. Covid tests negative.
I would normally think HFM, but we all had HFM back in September (including DH and I!). I know there are different strains but just can’t imagine we have it AGAIN. It’s also different-the sores are extremely painful, whereas HFM sores don’t tend to hurt. I get cold sores and canker sores from time to time but this seems infectious since we all got it. And this was with me being absolutely militant about no sharing of any food or utensils whatsoever. I understand the kids passing it to each other but now how DH and I got it when we’ve been so incredibly careful. What would cause infectious mouth sores that are painful and easily spread?? |
| Oh my HFM sores were horrible. I’m guessing that’s what you have. |
| Strep? My son was complaining about “mouth bumps” last week; he popped a fever and i took him in, and it was strep |
Op here. But I’ve heard it’s rare for adults to get HFM, and we ALL had HFM 4 months ago!! I can’t imagine we all have HFM for a 2nd time in such a short time |
Op here. In my case the sores are ONLY in my mouth, not at all the throat. My DH had them on his tongue. My kids it seemed more like tongue and gums. We haven’t had throat pain. Could it really just be strep? |
| I had that recently and it was HFM. My sores were only on the edges of my tongue. They were ridiculously painful |
It’s rare but someone has to be the rare case. |
| When is your doctor appointment? Report back |
| There is a closely related but different virus called herpangina that causes fever and mouth sores. |
Totally random story but when we learned about that in dental school we called it herpvagina
|
Op here. I think that’s what it is! https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22508-herpangina |
| Oh lord. I hope I don’t get this. My DS had a single mouth sore back in Nov. gargle with lukewarm to warmish salt water twice a day and get Clorox wipes and wipe all doorknobs and surfaces at kid height |
| You also might want to ask about h.pylori. If you google around you can find a correlation. I had a horrible bout of mouth sores, was found to have h. Pylori a bit later and then during treatment the mouth sores came back. |
Op here. Do kids get h.pylori too? I’ve heard of it in adults, but never kids but that’s probably just my ignorance. |
That’s usually not highly contagious. |
