Last miniute ED2 to CMU

DD wanted to ED2 CMU, would it be better than RD? She wanted to study CS has a good stat

Has she visited ?

Yes but self guided tour when family made a trip for sibling to visit Pitt.

She has set her mind to major CS and has done some programming already and wanted to pursue that but not sure if there is advantage in applying ED2 or RD.

CMU explicitly states there is no admissions bump for doing ED. If we believe them, not sure why anyone would ED there?

FYI the CS program at CMU has a 3 or 4% acceptance rate. A little easier for girls since they strive for a balanced class, but tons of perfect grades + SAT + national level EC kids get outright rejected.

Also known to be a massive pressure cooker for CS. Certainly would not send my daughter there is she had done a “little” programming.

Schools state that then not sure why they have ED2

ED2 offers better odds for admission v RD.

She wanted to pursue CS will submit SAT and good gpa ok EC but even with that I'm setting her expectation to be low.

Yes she took some AI and mobile app programing and participates and likes math as well.

ED2 at CMU for CS can be more competitive than EDI since many of the kids deferred or shut out at MIT/Stanford apply during the ED2 round. But I always say apply if you can. Just think through what getting in entails before hitting the submit button. CS in CMU is a huge grind even for kids who have done programming and have perfect stats.

Thanks for your comment. She is going to apply RD to MIT which is also difficult to get in but she has one acceptance from state school and few EA that she has not heard result yet. So since she worked very hard in HS compared to her siblings I'm trying to assist as much as I can.

Yes, but CS at CMU is a little different

Obviously great placement at FAANG and similar.

But I have yet to meet someone that did CS for four years at CMU and had a good time.

It's rough. Not a happy four years.

Good luck to her. My son was rejected last year with perfect SAT + grades + having won a national level programming competition. 5 on Calc BC in 10th grade. You get the picture....

Of course. Wish her the very best!

Without knowing more, definitely would not ED2. Have you run the NPC? If she has good stats you might get some good scholarships at some of the other schools.
