Southern Men: Just friendly or actually flirting

I can never tell if they are just overly friendly and it’s just a southern thing or if they’re actually flirting so I don’t know how to respond to it. With men from other regions I usually find it very clear what their intentions are and they are more direct. Has anyone else found this to be true?

Many of them think they possess southern charm but it often comes across as smarminess. If you are very attractive, it’s likely flirting.
