I can't stop reading

My house is a mess, my to do list long yet I spend most of my day just reading. Granted I am retired. But I feel like I should get a handle on the house, right?
I've read about 100 books this year!
Help me!

I don’t read enough. AND my house is a mess.

Do what makes you happy, OP. Happy new year!

I love to read too and always feel guilty - you have spurred me on for a new goal for next year - 100 books or bust! Life is meant to be enjoyed. Enjoy. Thanks for the post in all sincerity as it reminded me I should spend more time doing the things I really enjoy.

I can’t wait to retire so I can read all the time!

I agree that listening to an audiobook for an hour a day while you clean will help you find balance

Op here ..thanks for all the good advice and not making me feel guilty. I'm 58 so I figure 20 more years for me. That's 2000 more books I can read at the pace I'm going. I have to choose wisely. Love the audio book idea

See how much you can clean and check off things off the to do list at the same time listening to audio books. Try it.

I am envious; nonetheless, you do need to have a more structured schedule that includes home repairs & housecleaning. Perhaps you can read a book or two on disciplined organization.

Continuing:

Just shared this thread with spouse who offered better advice: Said that your reading addiction is just a way of procrastinating. So my suggestion is to read a book or two on overcoming procrastination.

May I suggest a few on indulgence and taking time to enjoy the present?

This is why I love audiobooks.
You can't get chores done while watching TV. You can't get chores done while reading a book with your eyes. You can't get chores done while surfing the net. But you can get chores done while listening to audiobooks.
Yesterday while listening to an audiobook I washed the dishes, took out the trash, swept and mopped the kitchen floor, prepped food, and cleaned one of the bathrooms.
The day before I listened to an audiobook while doing laundry, sewing, ironing, and organizing stuff in my shed. .
