DH and I have been discussing wanting to start hosting a fun party in the New Year. With the exception of kids birthday parties and the occasional barbecue for a small group, we haven't really entertained much at home. And of course Covid threw a wrench in things for a long time.
We want to step up our game and be more social. We were thinking it might be fun to come up with an idea for a fun party that people will actually want to come to (lol). If it goes well, maybe we could do it or something like it annually. Kids are in middle school now and I was thinking maybe something that would be fun for the adults & kids could come and hang in the basement/play video games, watch movies, etc. Have you attended any fun parties in the past that you thought were actually really fun? I'm thinking the best bet in hosting this would be some point between January and May. As summer/fall schedules are usually nuts. We've been brainstorming and are stuck for ideas. What would you do? Thank you for your help! |

Super Bowl party
Mardi Gras party St Patrick’s Day |
| When are the Oscars? That could also be a fun theme. |
| Summer Olympics party |
| Are you wine drinkers? I went to one where there was the same type of wine at 4 different prices. Everyone had to do blind tastings and rank them. It was fun! |
| We always throw a party the last Saturday in January and ask everyone to bring the worst holiday present they were given. Everyone has to present their gift to the group making their case for why it's worse than everyone else's, and we award the worst three gift recipients. Then we donate them all. |
Can confirm, this is a lot of fun. We have a lively group of friends so encouraged people to come dressed as their preferred sport. People showed up decked out. We had medals for best costumes. We also had food representing different countries. It was a really fun party. |
| Murder mystery night? |
| Kentucky Derby party? |
+1 |
| How about a night where you talk about different charities and people of need and see which one people should donate to? |
| If a potluck, you have to bring a dish that starts with the first letter of your name. |
Not the OP - but this sounds like a very unique + great idea for a party. I definitely would go‼️ |

Super Bowl would be good- lots of food, funny ads, etc. Set up a baked potato and chili bar.

| hors d'oeuvres Party - everyone brings one and choose a favorite. Hors d’erby. |
