Easy and tasty diet food ideas

Anonymous
Hello,

I’m wondering if people have ideas for easy healthy diet options. I have an air fryer. Looking for tasty, healthy, and quick prep.

I have limited cooking skills or knowledge of spices, so even a sandwich that you love is helpful.

I like chicken and salmon. I like fruit with my proteins and in salads.

I have been eating chocolate rice cakes with almond butter as a snack.

I had to lose weight and add fiber and vegetables. I found that the chopped salad kits with toppings are actually delicious enough to get me to eat a lot of salad.

There are lots of brands now...store brand, Taylor Farms, etc.

I like Salsa Ranch, Steakhouse Wedge, and the cabbage, kale and cranberries one.

My teen boys will also eat these chopped salad kits voluntarily although they sometimes eat all the crunchy toppings and none of the dressing.

Another thing I like is slices of Boar's Head plain boiled ham on Wasa Sourdough Crispbreads. That's very low calorie but passes as a sandwich. If you're really hungry, you can have another without adding a ton of calories.

If eggs work with your diet, the small egg cooker appliances can help you quickly make them at mealtime (hardboiled, softboiled, etc.).

PP - thought of something else - South Beach Diet Turkey lettuce wraps. There are a bunch of recipe variants to Google. We went through a phase of eating these. Some recipes are simple and dull. Some have yummier ingredients like sliced pepper and herb mayo.

The air fryer is great for vegetables. Broccoli, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, asparagus - so many options. Chop into bite sized pieces, toss with just enough olive oil to give them a thin coating, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Air fry - you can find recipes online for specifics, but I find 380 works well for most. 5-7 minutes for tender veggies like asparagus, 8-10 minutes for heartier veggies.

They can be a great side for chicken or salmon, or more of a main in a grain bowl. I also like root vegetables topped with a poached egg.

You don’t need specific “diet foods”. The easiest and most effective thing I did was replace things I already ate with lower Calorie alternatives.

For example. Tortillas-switch to one of the low carb (which are also lower calorie) options. Same thing with Sandwich bread and rolls. There are so so many now. And I can’t even taste the difference. When making sauces-use lower calorie options. I couldn’t believe how many calories were in sauces I was eating. Use the leanest meats when cooking. Although I still eat rice and pasta I try to keep them in a very small category of the foods I eat. Often times when I make dinner for my family and the carb is rice-I’ll just have more vegetables and not eat the rice.

Also the small proportioned snacks (mini versions of protein bars and snack bars) really helped. And low calorie popcorn.

I lost 100 pounds in a little over a year. The only exercise I did was walking but I did that every day (around 15k steps total on average a day).
