I understand the need for the ads and I’m generally in favor of them. However, they’ve recently become so intrusive that I can’t read an entire thread without losing my place with all of the ads. They constantly reset the screen just in time to post a huge, screen-sized ad for me to scroll past to, once again, try and find my place in the thread. It’s become so difficult to read that I am dissuaded from seeking out other pages-long threads.
It makes me wonder if they promise you one thing then, when the complaints stop, they throttle you with more intrusive, harder to remove ads for each thread. |
| Yeah and now they're creeping in from the sides and there's a lot of movement and flashing. |
|
I am in constant discussions with our ad partner to maintain ad quality. I have another call scheduled for next week. These issues are a major concern for me and one that I will keep making a top priority to address.
|
| I am getting a slew of pop-ups from my work's microtrend malicious content spam blocker while browsing DCUM... all the binging pop-ups from the microtrend spam blocker; combined with the rapid-fire, flashing, moving, bouncing advertising pop-ups are really harshing my "quiet Friday at the office" Zen Zone. |
I discussed the bouncing around problem with our ad partner and they should be looking into it now. We don't allow pop-ups, so any of those are malicious and unauthorized. But, without any other reports of pop-ups, I wonder if your Microtrend is getting false positives? |
Thank you. I am still experiencing the same, like OP. |
| Yes they’re getting worse. Now massive ones I have to scroll past plus the ones that jump and make me lose my place on the page |
Just a reminder that if you encounter a large ad, especially one that blocks content, you can add "#audit" to the end of the URL and an overlay should appear over the ads saying "Report". Then you can report the ad. Otherwise, you can take a screenshot and provide it to me. I had a conversation about the jumping around issue with our ad provider and they should be looking into that now. |
| I don't know what kind of shady advertisers are posting to this site, but my antivirus software goes nuts every time I'm on DCUM. |
My guess is that something is wrong with your antivirus software. We are working with a very reputable ad provider who works with thousands of other websites. While nothing is every perfect, that chance of getting a virus from our ads in very, very low. |
Except it doesn't happen when I'm on other ad dependent sites. Go figure. I use Bitdefender, if it matters. |
| They are definitely getting worse for me. I actually had the thought tonight that I might need to quit using the site on my iPad in the evenings. |
|
Just now I got ads on almost every (not quite) every post on a single page. Is that intended?

| It's soooo annoying how they always lay over the content. Makes it difficult to use the site. |
|
Is the problem the ads, or the forum software having bad layout/CSS?
YouTube is covered in crazy ads but the layout still works for accessing the page content. |
