Millennial here. I think the only lunch breaks I’ve taken in 5+ years have been to attend work potluck parties.
The bad part is that we’re required to take a 30 min unpaid lunch break and have to work 8.5 hours. I’ve debated quitting so I wouldn’t have to deal with that anymore. It will absolutely be something I ask about in job interviews. They basically get a free 30 min out of me daily. |

Very true. My Boomer or older GenX coworkers are psycho about their lunch hours. They won’t take phone calls, answer chats and guard it as sacred. They won’t even move their lunch break around for important meetings with clients.
Millennials don’t care about lunch breaks at all. |
| You would need to work, to take a lunch break... |
| Millennial here who guards my lunch breaks as sacred. I start losing it if I’m working without stopping all day, especially without eating properly. I notice many similarly-aged coworkers skip their lunch though and then seem constantly frazzled and stressed - shrug. To each their own. |
| I’m GenX and eat at my desk 90% of the time. I used to have a foodie coworker so we’d eat out more often (1/wk). Fun, but I lost 1-2 hrs of the day. Very few people actually eat in the cafeteria. |
| I’m a GenXer and I absolutely hate going out to lunch because it prolongs the work day (and I don’t really like my coworkers enough to voluntarily spend time with them). I eat at my desk 99% of the time… I think out went out twice in 2023? |
Unless your workplace will let you leave early if you don't take lunch, that's smart. |
| I work through lunch so I can leave early - I'm not Millenial though. I think going to lunch gets old and expensive quick. |
|
I take lunch breaks, and I also leave early, and I also arrive late.

| I'm GenX and skip lunch or eat at my desk almost every day. The only exceptions are when we have working lunch mtgs. |
| why do genx feel like they are entitled to comment on millennial posts, please stop, can't even |
| Most jobs don’t let you leave early if you work thru lunch. |

Another thing they ruined. I loved my lunch breaks in 1980s and early 1990s. We take the full hour every day and had an amazing subsidized cafeteria.
Pre direct deposit when we got checks we got one hour 15 minutes for lunch to include time to catch check. I deposit check over weekend or in ATM and my dept would hit Irish bar next door for a long liquid lunch. My cool boss let us add our 15 minute break so 90 minute lunch. We get 20-30 going sometimes Now we eat at desk and work |
Right! Aren't millenials also the people quiet quitting? How does not taking a lunch break fit in with that? |
