I am planning on delivering at INOVA Fair Oaks and they are not hosting hospital tours right now so I am getting all of my info off their website.
It looks like they don't allow visitors under 12? Has anyone delivered there recently with young children? My 5 year old is very excited to meet their sibling and I am kind of bummed he'll have to wait until we can get home. |
I know a lot of hospitals are going back to that policy, Will you stay a couple days? |
| Did they ever allow kids? I've been having babies for 14 years and can't ever remember a time that kids were allowed to visit. |
PP, do you mean at any hospital? I just had a baby in May at Sibley, and there was no problem with my older DD coming to meet her sibling in the hospital. Also, my sister had all of her kids at INOVA Fair Oaks and her kids were allowed to come there as well (this was pre-pandemic though, so I am not sure what their current policy is). |
That's so crazy. I've never been allowed to have kids at the hospital, as I said, in 14 years of having babies in this area. |
To add - includes Sibley and Fairfax INOVA |
The max you will be there is 48 hours. Your 5yr old can wait that long |
Love when posters have nothing to add so they opt for rudeness instead. |
| I just delivered at Inova Fairfax and siblings are the exception, they are allowed to visit |
It says no children under 12 and doesn't mention any exceptions https://www.inova.org/about-inova/visiting-hours |
| This is a bummer. I just delivered at VHC and 2 year old sibling visited the day-of. |
Ask your OB. If they don’t know, ask upon check in at L&D. The sibling exception often only isn’t listed on the website, especially post-COVID. |
| What an extremely bizarre and awful policy. I’ve never heard of siblings not being able to visit. |

Every time I was told it was because of flu season. It didn't really matter to me, baby came home 3 days later from the NICU. Now that I have young kids that bring home the absolutely worst respiratory illness but have no symptoms themselves I get it. |
This is correct. The recovery area allows younger children, unless flu levels reach a certain number. It’s not published and all the front desk people at the L&D check in know the rule. Just ask there. |
