Booties and pants?

I am out of it and behind on boot/bootie style and pants. How would one wear flat boots or short booties with slim fit pants or jeans these days? Ok to go over the pant or does there have to be some sort of ankle showing etc.? I would like to wear comfortable short boots with my slim fit pants but don’t even know where to start. |
