Please interpret this recurring dream

This is a recurring dream: I find an old closet of my mother’s or sister’s (IRL both still alive and I get along with both). I need something to wear to a party of some sort and so try on all their old dresses. I’m convinced they won’t fit but some do and look good. What does this mean??

You have rejected your mother and sisters’ personalities and qualities but ultimately when you are out in the world “at the party” you find that their traits and actions bring you some comfort, like an old comfortable dress that you can relax in.

I think it’s weird that you dream about anything but trying to get to an exam for a class you forgot about.

You think you are very different which is why you thought none of the dresses would fit.

You were surprised that you are more like them than you’d like to admit, those are the dresses that fit.

It means that there are some points of disagreement you’ve had with them historically or judgments of them you’ve had that you are ready to compromise or soften your position on.

It depends on how you feel (during the dream or after waking) about the dresses fitting. Does it make you feel happy, angry, vindicated, threatened, warm, scared, loved? Your feelings in dreams are more aligned with your subconscious than the dream imagery.

I have dreamed this multiple times...lol. Usually, I am at a college and I cannot remember the room, or the last time I attended the class and I am searching for the room in a panic.
