Do you always serve appetizers?

I’m just having a married couple over for dinner (I’m single). I planned on serving them drinks in the kitchen (spacious way in kitchen) before a two course dinner (soup and a main). Do I put out cheese/crackers/olives/nuts first? The food should be ready about 30 minutes after they arrive.

Op here- got it, thanks! I served all of the above and it was enjoyed.

Only because it’s expected. If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t. I’d rather be hungry for the actual meal.

Sometimes. I keep it light though. Personally I don’t love appetizers and they ruin my appetite. But if the host puts them out and it isn’t a large gathering, I feel obligated to eat them. So, when I host, if I’m just hosted one couple, I’d put out maybe some good quality nuts and cheeses with the wine. If I’m having multiple couples/familes, then I put out more
