Holy Cross School Kensington and same sex parents

Anonymous
We have toured a few Catholic schools in MOCO and have been pleasantly surprised how lovely and supportive the schools and parents have been towards (the few) same sex parents that are part of the schools. Any input on Holy Cross in Kensington, Pk-8? We are aware of the Catholic Church’s view on same sex couples so don’t expect complete “open” support for those families at Catholic schools but would be nice to send our kiddos to a place that values respect towards these families. Thanks!

Send your child to Sidwell or one like it (Sidwell is tough to get into.) Many Catholics are okay / even accepting of gay parents but that's not the same as truly embracing diversity. I'd also consider the other parents attitudes' as a factor. Some will be true Catholics and may exclude your child. I'll likely be attacked but it is true.

+1 still many closed-minded catholic families in Kensington area. More accepting than before, still, don’t expect community to be as welcoming as people in the admissions events. Will your child have to attend religion classes? Will the religion teachers teach that families like yours should not exist?

There are great catholic schools in this area but be thorough when doing due diligence. Ask lots of questions of the school and current families.

I wish we would afford schools like Sidwell! We can’t. We aren’t a same sex couple, just would like our kids to be around an environment that is supportive of those couples… Public is an option but our local school is super crowded

Not sure I understand this post at all. MCPS is the go to. DEI in the Catholic schools is minimal if you want that kind of thing you’re gonna have to pay the cash and hope you can get into Sidwell, GDS, Holton. If it’s that important to you.

Odd that you’re not choosing a school based on academics or what would be the best fit for your child.

Clearly, openness to LGBTQ families would be the best fit for this family. Weird comment.

OP,
I recognize this poster. This person just posts anti-Catholic nonsense, always without any evidence to back up the posted bigotry.

I work in a Catholic high school. We have services to support our LGBTQ students, including a club. I send my own children to a Catholic K-8 which has been very supportive. A couple of their friends are LGBTQ or have parents who are. They are very active members of our community.

I’m sure there are some schools where this won’t be the case. (That’s true for publics, too.) Just don’t listen to whatever nonsense the PP decides to spew.
