Anyone else text “Merry Christmas!”

Anonymous
To someone and not get a response back?

I have received a text like that and not responded. I thought the point of texts like that is that a person can respond or not in their own time.

Who didn’t respond, OP? Relationship to you/how long since you’ve seen them in person/how far away do they live? What is it about this particular person that makes you feel slighted?

Maybe they were out of the country and not receiving texts immediately. Maybe they felt you should have called instead of texted. Maybe they aren't even Christian.

Don’t read into it. Let it go!

The holidays are very hard for a lot of people.

Why are you so offended about a non response to a text that took you 13 seconds to write?

I was enjoying the day with my family and did not feel the need to respond to two co-workers and two totally random people we knew from a daycare we’re no longer a part of. We were with family and called family who couldn’t be with us.

I also ignored the incessant, nonstop group text from old college friends. Great that they love to text all day, but I was relaxing at home with loved ones. I’ll pick back up on that nonstop text chain after break is over. I’m on break.

Must’ve heartbreaking after you made such a bug emotional investment.

It’s weird that you are using what is allegedly a holiday greeting or wish as a measuring stick or a bean to count. Like, either you wish them a Merry Christmas, or you don’t.

+1 - Christmas and a few other choice holidays are days when I close the ranks and don't check email, social media, texts, etc.

Yes, but I don't care that much.

Yet, again, this shows how people’s mental state is impacted by devices.

I don't think people necessarily expect a text back from that. The younger people I know from work do it almost like a 21st century Christmas card.

I have done it and not received a text back until the next holiday. I totally understood. I am middle age and I just assume either a parent or inlaw is having issues, or the kids are overwhelming or something is going on at work and that is usually the case. When life was easier though I obsessed more about these things. Now I spend so much time in survival mode myself, I hardly have time to give it a second thought.
