Do adult women use hair accessories anymore?

Anonymous
It just occurred to me that I never notice women wearing berettes, clips, or headbands anymore. I think I think I look a lot better with them. Are they dated?

I see some women wearing those thick head candy. I personally think they look ridiculous. Wear what you want.

I wear clips. My husband says the headbands look cute, so I occasionally wear them, but I don't usually feel like they look quite right on me.

I wear combs (!) and occasionally barrettes. I know they’re not fashionable, but also, my hair, which is curly, looks best pulled loosely off my face, and combs are the best way for me to achieve that. I get compliments, including from my stylist (when I’ve arrived with my hair pulled back in combs), so it can’t be too bad.

Also, who am I trying to fool? I’m a middle aged woman (46) with young kids and a full time job, and I’ve never really cared much about fashion trends. I wear things that flatter my figure and that I feel comfortable and confident wearing. I’m sure some of it is dated. Oh well.

I do. I put my hair up in a French twist with a clip most days. I have a number of clips that I have simply decorated and coordinate with my outfits.

Do you wear them to work? I feel comfortable wearing them around to do errands, but I wonder if it would look strange at work. I teach high school, so it’s not the same as an office environment, but we aren’t allowed to wear jeans.

I have always worn barrettes to hold my hair back.

Mostly I see basic black or brown hair ties. There are likely some hidden pins in buns. My cousin wears a silk head scarf when it is raining or her hair isn’t done and sometimes a small claw clip to fasten a bun.

I never see any of your ladies out and about with hair clips and combs. Ever.

I sometimes pull the front of my hair back in a barrette if I'm being lazy about styling it (or if it's rainy/humid and going to go wonky anyways). I've also recently been using a big claw clip to put it up in a loose updo if I'm getting hot - I find that it doesn't "crease" as bad as pulling it up with a ponytail holder and I can cool down a bit before putting it back down again.

Love the idea of combs! Old school.

I wear scrunchies like it’s 1985. I don’t care.

I have lots of nice France Luxe barrettes. I wear one every day.

I sometimes wear a black clip to keep the front back but I get a lot of comments when I do -“your clip is so cute” - so it makes me wonder if it’s odd for me to wear one.
