Infertility Support and Discussion
Wondering whether acupuncture will be more beneficial before or after the transfer. I would imagine both, but if I have to pick, what would it be?
if you can only do one I'd do it after - helps to relax you & uterine muscles & stimulate blood flow
I agree with PP the only good studies showing the benefit of acupuncture measure the post transfer period. Not saying that it doesn't do anything at other times but there have not been good controlled studies testing this.
OP here. Good suggestions. Thank you!
Both is best (just before and after), however agree with other posters that if you can only do it once, then do it after.

The German research protocol that this is based on is for both before and after the transfer, I believe.
However, IMHO, I found the post transfer acupuncture more helpful than the pre-transfer acupuncture session. 1- I was so stressed out post transfer after SGFC told me at the last minute with full bladder that maybe I could consider two embryo transfer instead of one (E-set); and implicitly told me that my embryo quality was not superb. 2-The pre-transfer acupuncture session I did at Rockville, at Pulling Down the Moon. I didn't usually go there and I thought the treatment was mediocre. The post transfer acupuncture session I did downtown with my regular fertility acupuncturist, who is very effective, got me to relax after the whole transfer ordeal.
