11 year old keeps getting ear infection or pneumonia

It won’t stop. The moment we finish amoxicillin, a week later, she gets scary cough again and we are back at Dr again. This time we are traveling and I really don’t want to go to urgent care. I am frustrated and don’t know the answer. Her cough is terrible though

If your DD needs to be on antibiotics or she is sick, why would you not take her to urgent care? It makes no sense.

That must be so frustrating! What does your pediatrician say? Maybe a checkup is in order after the holidays, see if the pediatrician has any ideas?

My 12yo son has been sick on and off this whole school year with one cold/bug after another. It has been truly excessive for his age IMHO. Nothing that has required antibiotics thus far but have made an appt with our ped after Holiday break to get an exam and some bloodwork or whatever the ped thinks we need. It is probably nothing, but he is my 3rd kid and it seems odd enough to me -at this age- to be a bit worrisome.

Sounds like maybe you need a different antibiotic? That can happen with strep too if it keeps coming back

Immune deficiency can be diagnosed after 3 pneumonias. You should have been referred to immunology

Possibly go see a pediatric immunologist (aka Allergist).

Also, consider the possibility that a different antibiotic might be better at killing off the (apparently non-viral) infection. If it is a virus, Amoxicillin will not help.

ENT evaluation?

Get an ear camera on Amazon and use a virtual doctor for the ears.
