AG drops remaining charge against former LCPS Ziegler

Anonymous
So, for all the screaming by right wingers about how Loudoun doesn’t prosecute criminals, they won a measly conviction in a misdemeanor charge for wrongly firing a teacher for testifying before a grand jury against former LCSO Scott Ziegler in the wake of the outcry over the sexual assaults in two schools a couple of years ago.

AG Jason Miyares cynically exploited that case for political gain, of course. Ziegler was acquitted of two other charges and is appealing the sole conviction. Miyares also lost the perjury case against spokesman Wayde Byard.

Now the AG has dropped the remaining charge against Ziegler, that he made false statements at a school board meeting about the assaults, which was to be tried in Feb. Miyares’s office says justice has been served and basically admitted they were out to ruin two men, noting Ziegler faces a year in jail, a $2,500 fine and … wait for it … “other collateral consequences.” Whatever the hell that is.

I for one am glad this farce is over and and disgusted by our attorney general. 1-for-5 on a flimsy misdemeanor that will almost certainly be overturned on appeal. Way to go, morons.

Ziegler DID intentionally like at the school board meeting and everyone knows it.

The amount of lying and covering up during that whole debacle was horrifying. And I'm a Dem. But I'm also a mother of two teen daughters.

If that were the case, the AG wouldn’t have DROPPED THE CHARGE.

This whole thing has been a disgusting politically opportunistic exploitation of a tragic situation by our disgusting governor and craven AG.

No. School board members were emailed when it happened. He knew and he didn’t he should have. He lied intentionally. The whole thing was so effed up they have overhauled the entire process. You don’t seem to know much about it.

Toots, I live here. I followed it closely.

The point is the stupid criminal witch hunt that went 1-for-5 on a flimsy conviction for a stupid misdemeanor is finally over. And Younkin and Miyares should be deeply ashamed of themselves for their cynical exploitation of this tragedy for craven political purposes. They are disgusting.

I live here too with teens in HS. I’m not sure what your weird ax to grind is, but Ziegler and Byard absolutely deserved punishment. And LCPS has a long history of coverups. They needed the light of day shown on them. I didn’t vote for Youngkin, but the absolutely needed outside pressure applied.

Any comments on local Loudoun County law enforcement’s failures in regard to the incident in question? They are ultimately responsible for handling criminal matters on school property.

You don’t go to prison for misdemeanors, moron. He probably won’t even do a single day in jail, either. And it will be overturned on appeal.

It’s reference to trying to ruin his reputation. Which is consistent with the disgusting way Miyares does things. What a shitstain on Virginia.

Byard was acquitted, genius.

The entire thing was a colossal waste of taxpayer resources for partisan hack purposes.

OP here — Mike Chapman bears HUGE responsibility in all this and that shitbag of a father who caused the scene and detailed the sheriff’s investigation into his own daughter’s assault should never have been pardoned. This was a massive fail by law enforcement. I cannot believe Chapman got reelected. He’s corrupt and incompetent.
