alternative to hard-to-find bourbon

Bourbon is so hard to find the past few years. What are some good alternative liquors to sip on straight or with ice (no mixers)? Not Scotch, I'm well-versed in that.
Curious about tequila, rum, or things I haven't thought of. Specific brands would be helpful - this is for a gift. Thanks! |

| Brandies - look for a VSOP Cognac or an Armagnac. Ideally you'd drink it neat from a snifter. |
