...that's totally your right, but keep in mind you may never GET a finished series. If the first book has poor sales, there won't be another.

Perfect! Then I wouldn't have wasted any time on it and left with a never-to-be-written conclusion. If I ever feel compelled to read that single, lonely book, it will always be available if/when I change my mind.

That's why I get my books from the public library.

I know from experience that if I buy books from an author as a series rolls out. . . I still may never get a finished series, but I have wasted my investment of time and money and am left frustrated with the lack of resolution.

I still occasionally try a new series, but I’ve been left hanging so frequently, I’m beginning to wonder if I’m a literary jinx. Several times I’ve started a series by an author with a track record of writing multiple books a year for several years, and then when I’m hooked, they drop off the face of the earth. I just hope they’re okay somewhere living a happy life and haven’t fallen from COVID, been hit by a car, or faced some other catastrophe.

Also great sales don’t mean the series will ever be complete. Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by GRRM or Patrick Rothfuss.
