Big toe fracture

Anonymous
I am on vacation and I think I fractured my big toe in the ocean today. There was a huge wave that hit me and by the time I got out I knew it was bad. The toe is not swollen as I can move it but it hurts. Especially when I try to walk on it so no weight bearing. I can’t see the doctor until Sunday but is there anything I can do to make it better? Any advice from doctors?

I’d do Telehealth if possible and see what they tell you to do. I broke my big toe many years ago, didn’t get it tended to because I was a poor student, and greatly regret it. It was very swollen and yellow, green, black, & blue everywhere.

People will tell you they can’t do anything for toes, but that isn’t true.
Yes, as long as it doesn’t need to be reset, any doctors would likely only splint and tape to adjoining toes for support.
I have always thought it’s worth the x-rays just to make sure it won’t heal incorrectly (needing to be set and not evenly reset). I do believe that big toes have alternative treatments too, then solely splints, given they are the largest and an exterior toe.

^^ buddy tape is for the four other toes, not the big toe. Agree with tele-health if you can. If not, then get a supportive boot (there are ones less of big boots and more of sturdy/supportive sole with straps - look on google or ask the pharmacist at a local CVS type store, or a medical supply shop if youve got one nearby) will make walking easier until you can get it checked out/x-rayed
