Target Circle rewards are nonrefundable?

Bought something online using $20 in Target Circle rewards, the remaining $2 and change on my CC. I had to return it. After I made the return the woman said, “Oh.” And that she didn’t realize I used Circle rewards, but they aren’t refundable. Only the $2 would be going back on my card. The $20 is gone forever? This doesn’t sound right! I can’t find the fine print anywhere on their website. Does anyone know before I make an angry call to Target?

I mean it makes sense that you can’t use a return to convert them to cash.

I once had a return that had to go on this “merchandise card” at target.

It was un-usable online. Maybe they would give you that at least.

It was black and flimsier, not like a gift card.

Btw that was for a return where MIL and I got the same bday gift. I needed to return by didn’t know where she got it. (Our child has opened our gift, and was *slightly* different). I brought hers to target to exchange something for him to pick out.

Since they weren’t sure it had been bought from there, no receipt, they accepted the return and gave me that black card.

Could you do an exchange? I'd pick up $20 worth of groceries and see if they could apply the circle rewards to that as an exchange.

I've had this happen with most reward programs. So now I know to only put the notes towards something I know I won't return. At Target that would probably be groceries or paper towels or something.

This is common practice, but you could chat online and ask for credits or a coupon.

Update! Talked to someone at Target via chat and they said the rewards would be returned to my account within 72 hours. The girl at the store was misinformed.

I made a return today and I mysteriously had a rewards balance in my favor, I thought it was out of the blue or a glitch and then realized I had use a reward for the item I had purchased. So I believe rewards do go back to your balance.
