Diapers After Potty Training?

Anonymous
Has anyone had to go back to diapers temporarily for just a day or two after kid was done training? Would you worry it would set them back?

Context? I put my trained except for nights 2yo in diapers when we travelled for example because the repercussions of an accident would have been extremely bad and travel upsets routine anyway. Never had any issues. But I can’t imagine doing it for just like a random day at home.

Yes, but I’m talking about a 4 or 5 year old

NP. Some context is needed. Why does the child have to wear diapers for a few days? If it's a medical reason (surgery or something) then I'm sure you can explain it to them and they will be fine to go back to normal potty use after. If you're doing it to avoid rest breaks on a road trip-that's different, kids can learn to manage those.

We still do, when we've a long trip or day out when instant access to a toilet isn't available we still use pull ups. She makes it most of the time, but these cover any accidents. She's 4 and still not great at giving much warning

I remember my brother was having some trouble with accidents when he was 6 or 7 and my mom actually did buy him diapers. He threw a huge fit about when she made him wear one. This was 30 years ago and he’s fine now. I’m not sure if he would even remember it.

I wouldn't worry about a set back. They know the difference between underwear and a diaper at that point. It's more of a dignity thing. If your main concern is containing an accident just in case I'd do a pull up over their underwear.

I wouldn’t see it as an issue.

Bad idea. If your child is actually fully PT, you shouldn't have any diapers for them.

For long car trips, consider getting a "travel potty," it's been so helpful to us.

Here's an example. https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Tot-2-Potty-Travel/dp/B071GV1VYY/

Can't answer without knowing more. Are you talking about just for nighttime? Medical reasons?

When’s the last time since you finished potty training that your kid has had a diaper for any reason?

Never.

Mine is 6 and still wears them at night, so if there was some reason he needed one during the day he probably wouldn’t be too upset

If you need to put diapers on a child this age then this child is not potty trained!
