case western- insider scoop on whether a kid could have fun there?

Anonymous
Case western is on our list because it checks all of the academic/city/campus criteria, and seems academically like a great fit for my kid. We visited it and my kid seems to like the campus and Cleveland. But he wants a school with fun social life, lots to do. I know there have been Case threads on here before, but I was wondering if folks with kids there in the last few years could comment on... 1. any chance the reputation as very serious / no school spirit is changing at all (sometimes I've heard of "dated" reputations, so figured I'd check), and 2. how much variability is there... like is there a good social life for those who want that?

My son's friend is there this year and seems to be enjoying it!

If he joins a frat he'll be fine.

My son is a first year and seems to be having fun. He’s not in a fraternity but made an effort to seek out clubs when he first got there. It’s not a big rah rah school and I don’t see that changing soon, but I also don’t think that’s unusual at D3 schools.

My son is a 2nd year and he loves Case. He is very serious about school. He has made good friends and goes out on weekends only.

Also - if your kid is looking for big ten football and tailgating- Case is not that atmosphere. No one goes to the football games.

You need to tell us what your kid considers a fun social life. Is lots of alcohol filled parties important to them? Or do they prefer other social activities?

Lovvvvvve Case Western. My daughter is really enjoying it, and doing well academically. For those interested in healthcare, you have the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospital, the VA - lots of volunteer opportunities to build a resume.

Mine deferred as well. Sorry about your two deferrals.

So far, I'm not a fan of EA.

Good news at the end?

From Case? No. Got waitlisted and then they had some crazy steps to stay on the WL. Dropped out right away.

Waitlisted after deferred?! that is tough! Please share your kid's stats if possible and where is he/she now? We will need to redo our college list with this unexpected deferral.
