CoGAT: raw to scaled score?

Anonymous
I just got my DS's score report. He had a raw score of 48/50 and received a scaled score of 142 for Quant. So at the right tail, each question is worth 9 points (at his age)? That seems unfair, and given that 145 is a minimum score for certain math track advancement, I'm peeved at the imprecision of CoGAT.

Can others report their raw - > scale conversions so that we can see what the mappings are?

What math track requires a 145 on cogat?

My kid years ago had 50/50 and a 149 on Quant. I’ve heard of redshirted or October birthday kids getting a 144 with 50/50. My kid is middle of the road, age-wise, for their grade. Is your kid on the very young side for his grade?

OP here. Middle aged (7.5yo) for 2nd.

A perfect raw score should be a 160, not a 149. The October birthdays are getting screwed.

To skip a grade in math, FCPS requires a 145 CoGat quant.

PP. Maybe they’ve rescaled the test in the last 5 years. When my kid took it, only the composite score could reach 160. The max score on any section ran from 144ish to 150ish depending on the kid’s age in the grade.

I read this board a lot and have 2 kids in AAP at a highly competitive center and I’ve honestly never heard someone so worked up about this in 2nd grade. If your kid really needs to skip a grade, that will work itself out eventually.

Did you get the report in the mail?

Same. But it seems clear that OP's DC does not need to skip a grade and take Algebra I in 6th grade or earlier.

49/50 on Quant —> 144

October birthday

49/50 on Quant --> 145
February birthday (will be 8 in Feb)

48/50 on Quant -> 139

It all depends on the birthday I believe.

Cogat was in October. So, if your child's birthday is in October, they should be almost 8 years old at the time of testing.
