| I guess my mom's eyes are bad and her memory is not too great. But she refuses to wear glasses! We have been going to our in-laws for holiday gatherings for many years (15+yrs). And then stopped for a while during Covid. When my mom arrives, she says hello to my FIL, and then greets Dorothy, my MIL. And then asks my MIL - "Where's Dorothy?" And my MIL goes "It's me, Dorothy" LOL |
|
Did she mis-speak, and meant to say another name? |
I do stuff like this all the time. Sorry, can't remember what everyone looks like, especially when they change hair styles or clothes from the last time I saw them.
|
No she literally did not recognize her. She had gained some weight. It was hilarious. She had hugged her, said hello, and said their pleasantries. Then asked where Dorothy was. |

If it's actually dementia, you should take it seriously.
She greeted someone who was in Dorothy's position in the situation, but "wasn't" Dorothy, and didn't ask who this person was? Or she thought it was someone else? |
+1. OP. Not funny. Get on it. |
+1 This is not just a vision issue. If so, She would’ve used other clues to piece it together- MILs voice, the fact that she was with you FIL, etc. |
| Sounds like dementia / Alzheimer’s. |
Agree. |
