Has anyone read these? My 14 year old son likes science fiction and is ok with violence but doesn’t like love/sex in books. Would this series work for him? |
Murderbot is the best!! And perhaps since the main character is a genderless robot there is not a lot (or any?) love/sex.
Only thing is the first few are novellas so maybe better gotten from the library than purchased. |
Fabulous. Novellas as noted above, and they are available on Kindle.
OP, they are about a genderless robot that has difficulty with human relationships. There is no focus on love or sex, although the theme of friendship is a central one. The violence is a part of the story, as this is a sort of security robot and various bad or dangerous things happen, but I bet your son would like them. |
PS: PP, the adaptation rights have been picked up by Apple TV+, with the expectation to star Alexander Skarsgård. I really, really wanted Gwendolyn Christie. |
Excellent, thanks! |
Probably my favorite series. Highly recommend in audio narrated by the fabulous Kevin R Free.
I am….skeptical about the scarsgaard casting- my understanding is that in this future- everyone is of mixed race, so Murderbot would be a brown person. Or at least not vampire white. |
+2 sceptical of the Skarsgaard casting— think Asia Kate Dillon would have been great. |
OP- wanted to mention, no sex but a fair bit of cursing and violence. |
I LOVE this series! It doesn't have sex scenes in it (Murderbot shudders at just the thought) but it is very progressive in terms of 'family'. Meaning, marriage doesn't just have to be between 2 people.
The audiobooks are my favorite way to 'read' them. The narration is excellent! |
I love Murderbot! And I think your son will too. |
