WMATA Proposed Cuts

The following are to be cut under WMATA's 2024-5 budget proposal. If your kid uses any these to get to school start making noise NOW. (Looking at you D6 BASIS bus).

Please encourage your kids to use their kids ride free cards.
The kids pile on and no one uses them so WMATA has no data for how much they are used AND is not able to recoup costs from DCPS.

At least 32 and 36 seem OK for now.

The M4 isn't just heavily used for Deal and Jackson Reed, but it's also one of the only buses left in the upper NW neighborhoods.

My kids say the drivers have just waved them through when trying to swipe the kids ride free card. I think when there’s a mass of kids getting on a bus some drivers just have no interest in slowing the process down. I routinely remind them to take their pass but they say they don’t need it.
Again this comes down to system enforcement.

My big WMATA dream has always been *more* buses on the D6 -- boy is it a bummer to wait 20-30 mins for a bus to go downtown -- so this is a real blow.

Seriously. On any given day, only about 20% tap their card on the bus. I feel like an idiot for following the law, and my little kids do a double-take and ask me why there are so many "thieves." I don't blame the drivers for not wanting to get shot at or get pee thrown at them.

I get waived off every time my kids try to use their Kids Ride Free for buses. And we use several different buses.

Our bus to school is on that list. Anyone know of any organized efforts by DCPS/DCPCS parents to amplify how many kids uses metro bus to ride to school?

WMTA should just make DCPS pay a set fee per card issued.

The MacArthur kids take the M4. what happened with the proposal to the 2O6 bus proposal for the AU kids area get to Palisades school? Winter It's going to start and they didn't do anything with this new line for the students. We need to make changes in the next elections and find people who make positive changes in all these problems.of transportation

Clearly they need more revenue and it is in DCPS’ interest to keep these bus lines running. So just find a way to make a set revenue per kid or card or something.

This is a worst case scenario. Go see Charles Allen about it and he’ll tell you what you need to be doing.
