| Wondering what to get our adult children aged 23 and 25. We still have younger ones at home so are still in full on gift giving mode. I guess what I'm wondering is how your gift giving evolved once your adult child was earning decent money and still single. Do you still do stockings? Do you get them one big gift? If so, how much do you spend? |
| Apple products. Gift cards. Subscription for meal delivery, Amazon or Uber. |
|
If they’re on their own financially, give them cash.
|
| Kitchen things .. blender, bread machine, griddle, air fryer |
| If they are setting up an apartment, ask about anything household-y. Towels, bedding, kitchen supplies and small appliances. |
| OP here-Thank you for the ideas. My question is really more along the lines of how much to spend on my adult children. Do you continue to spend the same amount that you did while they were students? Did you transition to one big gift |
| Or gift certificate/membership to museum/theater/ music venue in their new location. Something they would like but might hesitate to spend money on. Same for subscriptions to news/sports/cultural media. One son got the New Yorker and the other got NFL game day. |
Depends on their wants/needs. We don't tally amounts, but probably spend generally around the same. |
| When ours were that age and living on their own our gift giving didn’t really change except my husband would give them $200 or so when they were heading home. |
| Cash. Most useful gift for young adults |
| Depends on your family and financial circumstances. When we were young adults and just married, both sets of parents would give us 500 and 1000. It was never expected, always appreciated. We have more means now with our DC as she approaches young twenties stage. We’ll probably fully fund Roth and or fund 529s or help with investments. Do what you are comfortable gifting. |
I do that often but I'd not for xmas gift. |
| I appreciated when my mom got me Xmas decorations so I could decorate my apartment. She kept to smaller, easy to store items, but it was nice to have a few festive things. |
| I just have my daughters give me lists and I buy off of them. We still do stockings and I put gift cards, there favorite hair care, razors, deodorant or there favorite candy. |
| I have three kids in their 20s, one is still a student, and I do exactly the same for them as for my younger kid. Yes to stockings, it is their favorite part (they get a lot of their gifts in their stockings). I spend about the same on every kid, and whether that is a couple of bigger gifts or more small ones depends on what they are asking for. Even though some are working and independent, they still love to receive things they might not buy themselves. |
