Now that the rush of cogat and in pool referral is over, let me ask about selection of school work samples.
Are they going to come from works in the next semester (Jan to Mar), or the teacher might remember or keep some good samples from this past semester? We had sone great samples coming home with my child in the past, and I am not sure the teacher would keep a copy or not. I sanned them just in case, but our family work samples are from home. |
From what our teacher and AART suggested I think most of the samples come from the fall. Our teacher asked about saving samples at Back to School night |
Our AART said they do the samples in Jan for the kids who were referred. That being said, my kid came home last week and said the whole class had to do a prompt for an AAP sample (sounds off to me, but that was what they said). My kid has had barely any writing come home all year, so I'm hoping they've been saving stuff. |
Around what time do the teachers submit work samples from their side? |
Our teacher showed us work that they were saving for an AAP packet at our conference. That work never came home. I would imagine they will pick from all work up until the packet submission deadlines. The email we received for being "in pool" said that at least two samples will come from AAP specific work done in the classroom. |
Our kid would go to the AART for enrichment in 2nd grade, and I'm thinking she had work samples from what they did with her. I parent referred before COGAT scores came back and didn't include samples. I didn't have anything! |
Last year, the teacher held onto everything until packets were submitted. We finally had all work sent home in February. The teacher and AART do AAP exercises with the whole class to get samples to submit.
I was unimpressed with the samples the school chose and ended up submitting the ones they didn’t use (but should have) on an appeal. |
My kid said the aart gave them an interesting math question. We didn't submit anything, just let the school do what they needed after the parent referral. |
This is also what our school does. It's from AART pull-outs and every kid they have to make a packet for does them. Our AART specifically said once they know they are making a packet for a kid, they do their best with work samples to "make your kid look good." They won't use a basic work sheet for one kid and a piece that gives another kid the chance to show complex thinking. That said, I doubt they play to your individual kids' strength as well as a sample from home does. |
