Neuropsych for 1st grader

Anonymous
I live in Virginia. My 1st grader needs a neuropsych. I’m not really sure what I’m asking for other than I need some answers as to why my child struggles academically (no behavior issues). Who would you recommend?

I would ask your school for recommendations. They will know of good practices vs. not so good ones.

Who is recommending the neuropsych? I would also do a lot of your own research on different firms - many of which are located in Maryland ironically, I do not know many in Virginia.

We really liked Stixrud.

It depends on whether you are private paying or need insurance coverage.

Our son had 2 done at Stixrud, the person he saw has retired. 2 years ago our daughter saw Dr. Debra N. Brosius in McLean on Elm St. Both were amazing, reports thorough, communication and explanation of findings fantastic. We will defiantly see Dr. Brosius for daughters triannual.

DO NOT use the school for the first one!!
You will NOT get what you need.

Schools don’t usually do neuropsychs at all. They do psycho educational evaluations.
