DH works for a European based company. They didn't include the US team in the holiday party and instead said take your spouse out to a nice holiday dinner and expense it.
What amount do you think is reasonable for a "nice holiday dinner"? |
| $40 at an Olive Garden |
| DH get this occasionally for his work anniversaries. The last time we went to Pineapples and Pearls. I would go for it. |
How big is the company? I doubt they care whether its 150 vs 200 vs 300 vs 325. Come in asking for 900 for a dinner for two and maybe they will ask questions. |

$500.
Bring whoever you like. |
| Probably 200-300. If you take too much advantage, they might take this perk away next year, so I'd keep it reasonable. |
| I'd say 300 max. |
| Inn at Little Washington! |
| Ask |
That's illegal. |
How so? It's no different than a spouse accompanying the employee to a company paid holiday party. |
| Go to Bazaar! It's insanely expensive, but I'm dying to try that $50 iberico ham. This seems like a great excuse to go a bit bigger than usual. |
| Under $500 |
| I'd cap it at $500. You can get a very nice dinner for that price and I personally wouldn't want to be the employee that pushed the limit to the max to find the breaking point. This is a nice holiday bonus! |
It doesn’t meet the tax requirements to “expense it” if that’s the manner it was used. |
